The Communications personnel for the Wickenburg Police Department, and the Wickenburg Fire Department, are the first line of defense between the public and the emergency services they may need. The Communications Center is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Public Safety Answering Point
Wickenburg Police Department is a public safety answering point. All 911 calls made within the city limits are answered here. The 911 system provides the dispatcher with the caller's name, address, and phone number when calling from their home phone. Although this information is provided, the caller must verify the information.
Types of Questions
Dispatchers must ask many questions at the time pertaining to calls for service. We understand this can be stressful for callers in times of need. These questions must be asked to be able to give the police and fire units responding a clear picture of the situations and the hazards involved.
The Do's and Do Not's of 911
Do not program 911 into your auto-dial telephone.
You won't forget the number, and programming the number invites accidental dialing of the number. Also, please do not dial 911 to "test" your phone or the system. This needlessly burdens the dispatchers and system with non-emergency calls.
Dial 911 only for an emergency.
An emergency is any serious medical problem (chest pain, seizure, bleeding), any type of fire (business, car, building), or any life-threatening situation (fights, person with weapons, etc.). You are also urged to use 911 to report crimes in progress, whether or not a life is threatened.
Do not dial 911 for a non-emergency.
Instead, dial the Police Departments non-emergency telephone number (928) 684-5411. A non-emergency incident is a property damage accident, break-in to a vehicle when suspect is gone, theft of property (when suspect is gone), vandalism (when suspect is gone), panhandlers, intoxicated persons who are not disorderly, or cars blocking the street or alleys and animal calls.
If you dialed 911 in error, do not hang up the telephone.
Instead, stay on the line and explain to the dispatcher that you dialed by mistake and that you do not have an emergency. If you hang up, a dispatcher will call back to confirm that there is no emergency. If you don't answer, a police officer must be dispatched to confirm that you are OK. This will needlessly take resources away from genuine emergencies.
Briefly describe the type of incident you are reporting.
For example, "I'm reporting an auto fire," or "I'm reporting an unconscious person," or "I'm reporting a shoplifter." Then stay on the line with the dispatcher. Do not hang up until the dispatcher tells you to. In some cases, the dispatcher will keep you on the line while the emergency units are responding to ask additional questions or to obtain on-going information.
Let the call-taker ask you questions.
They have been trained to ask questions that will help prioritize the incident, locate it, and speed an appropriate response. Your answers should be brief and responsive. Remain calm and speak clearly. If you are not in a position to give full answers to the call-taker (the suspect is nearby), stay on the phone and the dispatcher will ask you questions that can be answered "yes" or "no."
Be prepared to describe your location and the location of the emergency.
Although an enhanced 911 system will display your telephone number and location, the dispatcher must confirm the displayed address or may ask you for more specific location information about the victim or suspects.
If you are a cellular caller, your telephone number and location will not be displayed for the dispatcher's reference.
You must be able to describe your location so emergency units can respond. Be aware of your current city or town, address, highway and direction, nearby cross-streets or interchanges, or other geographic points of reference. Cellular 911 calls are frequently routed to a central PSAP that could be many miles from your location. Be prepared to give the dispatcher your complete location: city or town, address or location, inside or outside, what floor or room, etc.
Be prepared to describe the persons involved in any incident.
This includes their race, sex, age, height and weight, color of hair, description of clothing, and presence of a hat, glasses, or facial hair. Be prepared to describe any vehicles involved in the incident. This includes the color, year, make, model, and type of vehicle (sedan, pick-up, sport utility, van, tanker truck, flatbed, etc.). If the vehicle is parked the dispatcher will need to know the direction it's facing. If the vehicle is moving or has left, the dispatcher will need to know the last direction.
Be patient as the dispatcher asks you questions.
While you are answering the dispatcher's questions, he/she is entering or writing down the information. If you are reporting an emergency, most likely a response is being made while you are still on the line with the dispatcher.
Listen to the dispatcher's instructions for assistance if you are in danger yourself.
The dispatcher may tell you to leave the building, secure yourself in a room, or take other action to protect yourself.
Don't hang up until the call-taker tells you to.
Follow any instructions the dispatcher gives you, such as meeting the officers at the door, or flagging down the firefighters at the curb. Give the victim reassurance that help is on the way. Secure any dogs or other pets that may interfere with the emergency response. Gather any medications the patient is taking and which the medical crew will need to take with the patient.
Update on March 13, 2023:
Included here is a list of unclaimed property as of March 13, 2023. If you recognize your property, make an appointment at 928-668-0563 to claim your property. A valid government issued photo identification is required. Property not claimed by April 13, 2023 will be disposed of in accordance with Arizona state law.
The Property & Evidence (P&E) Unit consists of one part-time employee and they are responsible for the storage, cataloging, and management of all evidence, found, and safekeeping items. Items are submitted to the P&E unit by Wickenburg Police Department staff whom receive and/or collect items during a call for service. Calls for service may include, but are not limited to, investigations, incidents, or Good Samaritans surrendering found property.
- Intake, processing, and storage of evidence.
- Transporting evidence to and from the crime lab.
- Transporting evidence to and from the county attorney’s office and the courts.
- Disposing of items once they are no longer needed.
- Coordinate and return items to citizens.
- Processing of requests for video files.
Release of Property
Property is released by appointment only. Call (928) 668-0563 to schedule an appointment. Valid government issued photo identification is required, expired ID’s may not be used. Please provide the case number when claiming property.
Property listed as “evidence” will not be eligible for release without the prior authorization of the case officer. For more information, please contact the case officer or the Property & Evidence Technician at (928) 668-0563.
If the owner is unable to pick up their property, they may complete a notarized letter that includes the designated individual’s name and phone number. The designated person will be required to provide the notarized letter, along with a valid government issued ID, and sign the release form on behalf of the owner.
Property that is found or impounded as safekeeping, must be claimed within thirty (30) days of impound or it may be eligible for destruction, sale, or donation. An owner may contact our P&E unit to schedule an appointment to claim their property. Any property that has been released, and determined to have value, is placed up for auction at www.publicsurplus.com.

The Records Unit is responsible for maintaining and disseminating records produced by the Law Enforcement personnel of the Wickenburg Police Department.
It can take up to seven (7) business days to process a public disclosure request upon availability. All reports (except for accident reports) shall be redacted prior to release and are only made available when the case is deemed closed.
To obtain a copy of a police report, photographs, audio, or video:

- Mail: payment by check or money order made payable to the Town of Wickenburg
- To obtain an accident report, you must be a party to the accident.
- Photographs, audio, and video are released on a disc.
All collision reports after January 2021 are available for purchase usually within 10-14 days following the date of incident through Lexis Nexis. Collision reports prior to 2021 are processed through the records unit.

Per ARS 39-127, a victim of a criminal offense has the right to receive one (1) free copy of their redacted police report at no charge.
To obtain a Letter of Clearance (Good Conduct letter):
This letter, issued on official letterhead, will provide you a local search of Wickenburg Police Records by name and date of birth only (not fingerprint based). Letter-processing time is up to five (5) business days.
- Complete and submit a Letter of Clearance Request Form.
- Provide one government issued identification (driver’s license, state-issued ID card, passport, etc.) at the time of pick up.
- Payment of $8.00 by debit/credit card or cash.
